The Core is the Key

I am four months into my recovery from hernia surgery.  My results have been great because I followed my Doctor’s instruction and the instruction from friends who are personal trainers. I have been eating “clean, which for me is 90% healthy and 10% whatever I wanted to eat. Maybe, later in the year I will try to eat 100% healthy! I have done a lot of walking, running, bicycling and

Recovery !!!

Recovering from hernia surgery has been difficult. But, I have learned a lot about the human body and what to do to get going from hernia surgery. I talked to several trainers and the main thing was to eat clean or healthy after the surgery. It would be more advantageous if you had a good diet and were exercising prior to the surgery.  Second, the core controls everything !!!! Although

2014 Fresh Start !!

The year 2013 was a learning tool for what to do, and what not do. For 40 years I have been involved in some type of physical fitness or activity.  The diagnosis, confirmation and surgery of an inguinal hernia have changed my approach to my physical fitness.  But …… the Doctor said I should be better, stronger and I am going to find out. The one thing I learned is

Cross fit Neal Maddox

I stated in previous posts how much I like Cross fit.  For all around training with a healthy diet there are not many organized and detailed programs that benefit men and women like Cross fit. There have been news reports of individuals rush into emergency care due to over training. I have found that this has come down two issues, the first a lack of instruction and trainer intervention. Second,

This picture brings a smile to the face to those involved in physical fitness. This is homemade fitness equipment in a backyard patio. I found this photo and the plans to build something similar in my backyard. Removing P. E.  from elementary and middle schools is one of the worst things to happen to children and young kids outside of the academic challenges.  I hope to get busy on my

Preparing for HIT workout

In order to increase my bench pressing overall I am focusing on all the other areas like triceps, shoulders, back and oddly enough legs. I have found that focusing on an incline dumbbell pressing increase your strength and power over all.  I am improving my bench press strength. (IMHO). –Glenn D. You have to get the legs working

My son and wife are long distance running experts! They have 3K, 5K, 10K, half marathons and marathons.  I am proud of both of them, so if I need running and jogging expertise I will ask my son and wife. I am not a fan of running, but I realize how much running or getting your legs (major muscle group) working improves your overall workout.  We have maxed out our

Lifestyle vs. Habit

Take a small step, and then take some giant steps!! These two pictures represent where I was and where I am now. My daughter was about a month old when that photo was taken and I weighed about 245 lbs. My daughter is now 14 years old and I weigh 200 lbs. Life can take over and you have to take care of your responsibilities. But one of the things

Plateaus and motivation

Over the last couple of days I was feeling like I have hit a plateau.  So, it is time to change the work out, change the schedule –trick the mind and body. It is time to turn up the intensity like I had when I started getting back into shape.  First, have to improve the legs and for the first time I tried knee wraps and they make a difference!
