“That thang”

“That thang” I asked a good buddy of mine a question. I asked, “How come brothers cannot stay focused? With a straight face he said “That thang” just get brothers all messed up. We hustle for it, we steal for it, we lie for it, but right now we are not doing the things we need to do to earn it. We do want to do right for “that thang”; young black men have been searching for direction for generations. It is disappointing to say some of us got lucky, if you are conscious of what is going on around you. How come “that thang” does not motivate young brothers to study in school? Take responsibility of their communities and neighborhoods in a positive way? To have some pride. My manhood and sexuality is connected to my intellectual ability to be disciplined at all times. If I cannot control my sexuality, I then put my humanity, spirituality and community in my jeopardy. -Glenn D.Andrews –

Fish, salad and smoothies

I am not a dietician, or Dr.! But, research and some common sense go a long way. There are many ways to approach improving your health. Even if you are not demanding a high level of physical performance a healthy diet is beneficial. Drink water as much as possible, and limit drinking soda and other fruit juices as much as possible.  I have stated before 20% of my diet has been eating whatever I want, and the other 80% fish, turkey, chicken, salad, vegetables and fruit.  Eating small meals every 3-4 hours is not possible in most occupations. This is when protein drinks are a good supplement. Again, do your research and due diligence to see what works for you. Also on occasion I will make a smoothie out of frozen vegetables and fruit as a quick snack.  In 2014, the 20% will be reduced to 5% or maybe once or twice a month eating a treat!  We will see. -Glenn D. Historical Timing

Many are blessed with the historic character and timing to be introspective when met with challenges. When a grown man takes the time to analyze what they have done right and what they have done wrong they are in a state of supreme consciousness.

Moreover, if they seek to improve regardless of their station in life, we are no longer liabilities in the world, but assets. African American women want an African American man to be all we can be and more. So, interactions have to be about an exchange of thoughts, beliefs, and standards and how each of us can a make our environment better.  I have to put in the work on my humanity, my manhood, my dreams and my aspirations every day. But, you have to be honest and accept what may come from brutal honesty and being wrong. You may find yourself alone, but not lonely, but no longer do you accept mediocrity and deceit from yourself or others. -Glenn D. Andrews

My favorite room

In a limited space it does not take much to be involved in some type of exercise. Several years ago my wife and I made the decision to change the formal dining room to an exercise room. This is my favorite part of the house! – Glenn D.  Andrews
